Meeting Minutes for Block Meeting - June 1, 2016

Thanks to everyone who came out to this month's Block Meeting.  Please see minutes of meeting.

Meeting started at 7pm, Wednesday, June 1, 2016.  Ella opened meeting with Prayer.

Topic 1 - Invited Representatives of the Brooklyn District Public Health Office

• Dr. Torian Easterling and Joanne Alexander from the Brooklyn District Public Health Office (485 Throop Ave.) were invited guests
• Topics discussed were how to address health issues in our district.  
• Dr. Easterling presented the group with new information booklets that outline some of the issues facing each of the districts.  Click link for more detail.
• Reps discussed how our block could collaborate with the Office on community initiatives (panel discussions, outreach programs, etc.)
• Reps discussed the expansion of their office to include in-patient services, ambulatory services.  You will begin to see more action, movement around the building as they begin to staff new services for the community.
• Reps discussed the hours of operations for their building increasing to 8am-8pm Mon-Sat.  Currently the hours are 8am-4:30pm Mon-Fri.

Topic 2 - Block Party September 10, 10am-8pm

• Ms. Saxon handed out letter template to be distributed to surrounding vendors.
• Ray & Asa discussed creating banner space for vendors for upcoming block party. Let the vendors donate what they feel comfortable with, and in return post their logo on the banner to be displayed at this year's block party.
• Asa indicated he could print the banners for us
• Ella indicated she would cordon off the street prior to block party opening
• Discussed co-hosting the block party with the Brooklyn District Public Health Office however they were unable to co-host block party on the September 10.  Their annual event will most likely be hosted on September 17 and will involve street closure from Marcus to Throop.

Topic 3 - Dues

• Ray discussed yearly $25 household dues.  If you haven't done so, please submit dues to Ray either by Cash or Check.  If Check, make check payable to '500 Putnam Ave. Block Association'
• Ray discussed taking donations for the upcoming block party, separate from the annual dues.
