In case you didn't hear, our own Ella McNair won 1st prize for best treebox in this year's Greenest Block in Brooklyn competition. This event is held yearly by Brooklyn Botanical Gardens!
Way to go Ella!! Bridge Street Development Corp, in partnership with local community stakeholders, has formed the Central Brooklyn Community Reinvestment Act Committee.
What is the Community Reinvestment Act? The Community Reinvestment Act is intended to encourage depository institutions to help meet the credit needs of the communities in which they operate, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, consistent with safe and sound operations. Bridge Street has asked us to fill out 2 surveys to ensure the banks servicing our community are following the actions plans they have implemented. This survey is important as it helps Bridge Street measure their performance. Please view the residential banking survey for our neighborhood. If you are a business owner, you can fill out the business survey. Can you believe another block party has come and gone! The Block Committee would like to thank all who came out and participated at this year's event. We hope you had the chance to get out there and meet some new neighbors, put a name to a face, etc... Big shout out to Sophie for stepping up and volunteering to DJ this year. By the looks of the following pics, we can agree everyone had lots of fun. Let's make it even bigger next year. Below are the pics from party. A block resident just informed us that the Honey Baked Ham store at 1413 Fulton Ave. is now open and is giving out free food all day today as part of their opening! They are located between Marcy and Tompkins. Enjoy!
The official date for this year's block party will be Saturday, September 9! We are looking for volunteers for the day so get in where you fit in. We will be sending out a volunteer survey shortly. Hope to see you there.
Ever wonder how neighborhood policing works? Here is an interesting article that defines the current administration's objectives to bridge the divide between police and the residents they serve. Our block is currently zoned as sector 'B'. Below is a map showing how each sector is divided and who is assigned in sector 'B' as our Neighborhood Community Officers (NCO).
